I got an e-mail today from this website that told me about another website which sells a removal cream for braids, dreads, hair extensions, etc. I've never tried it, but I don't know if I would. Why? I mean, what could possibly be in those products that I can't find elsewhere or conjure up in my own kitchen? Just my thought. And another thing, is it me or does one of the girls on the poster look AWFULLY familiar? Hint: she's wearing purple eyeshadow and has reddish hair...

Anyway, if you won't listen to me and want to see the product for yourself, here's the link:

Indeed, I heard of this product a few years ago from the manufacturer. There's a similar product made by a different company that sells dreadlocking products exclusively.

If you're really itching to take down your locs, all you need is patience, conditioner (yes, most any will do) and a comb. Go heavy on the patience.

I've personally cut my locs the first time around but then tried picking them out the second time around. It was worth the time and fun to see all that growth.

Now on my third set of locs in 10 years, I'd rather take the time to gently undo each one. This page may be helpful with further tips: http://mydreadlocks.com/removing-dreadlocks.html

As to braids, they too can be done in the same fashion. While I've never kept braids in for more than a 6 weeks with my daughter, we've got a routine: carefully undo braids, pre-condition with coconut oil for 12-24 hours, shampoo, deep condition under dryer, comb out/finger remaining tangles then rebraid.

In fact, we're just taking a quick break as I rebraid her hair into 3-strand twists.

Love yer hair, y'all and keep up the fun writing her at CHD!
