Okay, here's the newest video: Damaged Hair Care. In this video, I discuss the ways to repair damaged hair. I even show you the products I use on my own hair. I hope this helps!

So far, you've been getting some good growth and have even gotten better at retaining length, right? Now, you're ready to relax your new growth but at the same time, you're scared of overprocessing your precious strands. Don't fret! The thing to remember when relaxing is that you are dealing with a chemical that can still cause some damage, so protecting your hair is vital. Try rubbing some castor oil or any oil of your choice to your already processed hair, not your new growth, to protect it. This will keep the relaxer from running down your hair strands when you are washing out the relaxer. Doing this for every relaxer will have some major benefits. I've been doing this for a while and have noticed some thickness to my ends.

As promised, I will start featuring how-to videos. This video features me getting my hair braided by Dalilredmama. In the video, she shows you how to plait with braiding hair. She takes my hair, lays a piece of the braiding hair on it and crosses the remaining piece of braiding hair under my hair and over to begin the braid. I hope that was understandable.

Out of severe boredom, I created a banner for the blog. It features the lovely Miss Jordan Richardson, whom I've posted about several posts ago. I think it's the best of the banners so far.

In the spirit of TCHD's first birthday, I introduce to you... Makeup! I will post pictures of makeup done by either Dalilredmama or me. Today's makeup is a little eye candy by Dalilredmama. It's different shades of gray by Milani called 06 Dominos. To get this look, start by applying the lightest gray on the whole lid including the area under the brow. Afterwards, apply the dark gray on the center and work your way all the way to the end of the lid. Then, apply the charcoal shadow on the end of your lid. To finish the look, add some mascara.

Give your hair a much needed break by doing some braids, twists, or a sew-in. Less manipulation will help your hair grow. While your hair is resting, be sure to take a multivitamin that has Vitamin B12 or MSM to help lengthen your hair's growth phase.

That's a very good question. According to Anthony Morrocco, there are actually certain days in the year where you can trim/dust your hair to achieve longer, thicker, stronger, and more beautiful hair. The theory is that the Moon sends energy to our bodies during these days causing a reaction. So, I have decided, just for fun, to see if it actually works. I dusted my ends on July 11 and I'll show you the results in two months. Anyway, for more on the method and dates go to: http://www.morroccomethod.com/lunar.shtml

I thought I could simplify the benefits of certain oils that are popular around the world. I will update this list as often as I can. So, here we go:

Grape seed oil: It's packed with antioxidants and helps induce hair growth. It also has regenerative and reconstructive qualities.

Meadowfoam seed oil: This lovely oil helps hair retain it's natural moisture. It's also filled with fatty acids.

Avocado oil: Not only is it good for strengthening, but it's also packed with Vitamin E. It also contains regenerative and moisturizing properties.

Rose Water, a distillate made from rose petals, can actually soothe and protect your hair? It is also said to be able to balance your hair's natural pH. It's very nourishing and worth it.

When it comes to hair growth, vitamins (as I've said before) are a must. Vitamins not only help speed up growth, but vitamins like MSM can actually increase your growth phase and minimize your hair's shedding phase. So, by popular demand, here's a list of vitamins and what they do:
  • Biotin: thickens hair
  • Copper: lengthens your hair color's life
  • Iron: helps hair from shedding
  • Vitamin A: an antioxidant that helps produce sebum and helps keep moisture in your hair
  • Vitamin B3: improves blood circulation
  • Vitamin B5: produces hair growth and prevents hair loss
  • MSM: extends the hair's growth phase and is said to change the texture

How the heck do I do that?
Scalp massages are essential when it comes to hair growth. Massaging the scalp allows blood to flow to scalp, feeding the follicles. Daily scalp massaging improves circulation thereby improving hair growth.

Mastering the scalp massage
So, now that you've been informed about the importance of the scalp massage, let's get down to business. Put the pads of your fingers on your head and gently massage your scalp in a circular motion. To get the blood flowing a little faster, hold your fingers down for a few seconds before continuing with the massage. Doing this daily will help your follicles push out more hair.

Scalp stimulating oil
Mix together one tablespoon of Coconut oil, half a tablespoon of Jojoba oil, six drops of Tea Tree oil, and five drops of Rosemary oil. This mixture will nourish your scalp.

It's been a year since this blog's been created. It went by pretty fast; thank the lord! Anyway, time for a comparison. As you can see, the hair color is different and the right side is no longer short like it was before. It's also a lot shinier! My hair is healthier and more manageable than it's ever been and I'm so grateful to all the hair care forums for all the valuable information they've given me. Be blessed!

As we all may or may not know, Jojoba is a very popular oil among the hair care forum members. Why? Not only is this oil amazing for sealing, but it also has a chemical makeup that is very reminiscent of the human sebum. Interesting, no? Each molecule in the oil contains a fatty acid and a fatty alcohol. This oil and its derivatives (jojoba esters, isopropyl jojobate and jojoba alcohol) are used hair care products all the time because of its healing abilities. So, next time you stop by your nearest health food store, be sure to pick it up. You won't be sorry! Oh, by the way, it's pronounced HO-HO-BAH.

After silk protein on the hair dries, it becomes a transparent crystalline protective film. This film can directly prevent the hair being damaged by alkaline materials in hair products. This protective film can increase the hair elasticity and increase the hair’s natural shine. It has a very special protective function in hair products. Silk protein is also known as silk peptide.

As you all know, I've been rooting for women to start air drying instead of blow drying. Air drying was helping my hair so much, but it's as if my hair has stopped cooperating with it. My hair now feels rough and breaks easily when I air dry. It also takes a lot longer to dry which I'm not too pleased about. My ends really suffered to the point where I had to cut off a few inches. I'm not worried though because my hair feels great and my ends are thicker. Will I continue air drying? Nope! I will roller set my hair every week and use a hair dryer.

UPDATE: I still air dry. I had too much moisture going on.

Who would've thought that this chick would be so chic? I am a big Rihanna fan. I love the music and the hairdo's. She's always switching it up and I love that. I am so happy that she veered off from that Beyonce looking weave she used to rock back in her Pon De Replay days. LOL.

Ever since I found out about the HPV thing, I've been drinking Cranberry juice like crazy to help my body's immune system. I found out a lot about what I was drinking and felt the need to post. Cranberry juice is filled with antioxidants, which we all know is great for the body. Raw cranberries have Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Phosphorus, etc. The cranberry is considered a "superfruit" due to it's health benefits. Although to me it's disgusting, I gotta drink it since it's helping. I'll keep you posted on any changes to my hair's growing pattern or texture.

Could the dryer be replaced for deep conditioning? Hair forum members are going bananas over hair steamers. Steamers stimulate the scalp, improve blood circulation, prevent hair breakage and hair loss. They also supposedly give the hair a more moisturized feeling. I tried steaming a few days ago at the salon and let me just say that it's just great. Would I buy one for home use? Probably not. There are other methods you can use to give your hair a steam treatment. For instance, You can wrap a hot wet towel over your hair and sit under a dryer for a few minutes.

These ladies had some sexy hair at this year's BET Awards. Alicia did swap those luscious curls for a Cleopatra look during her performance with SWV, En Vogue, and TLC. She got THICK!
