I was just reminded of this recipe thanks to Loo. I've been meaning to try it and will next week.

Brown Sugar Exfoliating Scrub
  • 1 TBSP brown sugar or quinoa
  • 3 TBSP conditioner
Mix together to create a thick consistency. Wet hair in shower and rub the paste on your fingertips. Apply to scalp and massage gently in a circular motion, starting at the nape of your neck and moving upward. Linger on any spots that seem tense or itchy. Rinse thoroughly, then condition.

This isn't a recipe I made up... it actually is a recipe from Curly Girl, a book by Lorraine Massey (co-owner of DevaConcepts).

I think this is one of the best ways to remove build up from the scalp.

I've never used conditioner. I usually combine Sugar in the Raw with olive oil. You are left with soft hair and a super clean scalp.

i agree. olive oil is better because the water content in the conditioner is going to dissolve the sugar. also, conditioner on the scalp can be problematic over time. i really need to do this soon though. :D
