I know the term "snake oil" refers to any type of medicine or product that is bogus, but this is the real thing! Snake oil supposedly has inflammation-reducing properties because fats and oils from snakes are high in eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). EPA is an omega-3 fatty acid by the way.

So, where'd I get it? Dalilredmama recently traveled to Haiti and received both Castor oil (a.k.a L'huile Mascreti) and Snake oil. She was told to mix the oils for better results. Even though I'd rather have just the Castor oil, the mix is just fine. I'm kind of scared to try it though... We'll see...

By the way, the picture to the left is an actual picture Dalilredmama took while driving around in Haiti. It's absolutely beautiful!

This is so cool to know. I'm of Haitian descent and had no clue that l'huile mascreti was actually castor oil... And to think I had a gold mine always in the house as a kid and not be a aware of it. But I must say, I have Jamaican Black Castor Oil now that I use in my hair but they don't smell the same. I wonder if the way each are "manufactured" is different.

Let me find out my homeland has hair goodies. I'm curious about that snake oil though. My cousin is going to Haiti next month. Please let us know how it's working out for you. I might make her bring me back a bottle!

Castor Oil or Palma Creti (L'huile mascreti) is THE TRUTH! I've been using it since I was a little girl living in Haiti. My mom would make tons of remedies and concoctions with it (as a laxative, hair conditioner, rubdown for sprains, etc.). It makes your hair very thick and grows it like madd.

I mix it with my hair butters to moisturize and also use it as a hot coil treatment. You can blend it with watercress and use as a pre-poo treatment to help your hair grow!
