I've been secretly transitioning for A WHILE now and I finally decided to just chop it all off! Everybody's been asking why and telling me how long my hair has gotten... I was mid-back y'all! But to answer the question on why I cut my hair... I just got tired of getting relaxers. I'm tired of pretending my hair grows straight and trying to make it manageable by putting a hazardous chemical on my head. My hair is coarse, kinky, and I love it even more now! My new best friends are SDBSF Purifying Rinse along with the Coco Cream Rinse.
Big shout out to Loolalooh, creator of the Wasijiru Collection, MssMylo, and Dalilredmama for the support and help.
I'm neck length for the first time since '06... I'm aiming for full shoulder length by the end of the year. Wish me luck! Feel free to discuss this further in the comments.

Oh My Goodness, Belle! You know I was wondering if you were because of all the reviews for natural products lately, but you tend to do long stretches, so I dismissed it. Congrats Girl! I know that one day I'll transition too, I just don't know when. I'll be looking to you for tips. BTW, how long was your transition?
March 3, 2009 at 7:22 PM
My last relaxer in October was SEVERELY underprocessed. It reverted back within a week. So it's been like four months plus the underprocessed hair from the eighteen week stretch.

Congrats!! 4 months was my transition time too. I couldn't take it anymore!!

I can't believe you did it! Congratulations!
I'm transitioning too but, I'm not as fortunate to have my natural hair reach neck length yet but, when it hits there or either shoulder length...I'll be doing the same.
Congrats again!

Thanks so much everyone! You know what, I actually cried a little today when I woke up to all the shrinkage. I picked it out and felt better.

I had no idea you were transitioning!! How long? How did you manage the two textures? Spill spill!!
Oh and congrats on your BC!!

I kept it a secret just in case I went back to relaxing. I stretched for 18 weeks up until October, but when I relaxed, it reverted. I literally had 18 weeks of underprocessed hair on my head and said, "Eff it. I'm done relaxing." So about four months later, here we are... I wore two sew-ins before I finally cut off all my hair. And I found that natural based products (CURLS, SDBSF, Blended Beauty) helped the transition go smoothly.

I feel like Jenn. I nearly passed out myself. Haha. I have had a total of two perms and I am over it. I am thinking about going natural myself. Congrats. I'll let you know if and when I do mine.
ps: now you can get a hot comb or press. whatever they call it where u are. some of my friends who have never permed their hair have grown it to BSL while staying natural and pressing it. Their hair is gorgeous.

Belle
welcome to a whole new world It's fun. I've been doing the texturizing and then just going natural.I like my hair natural. It's now been 4 month of no texturizing. I have a mix of three texture in my hair, didnt really know that since I've had a perm since 14? (I"m 45)Now I got my daughter doing it. The perm was breaking her hair off. We found a stylist in Socal that does the old school press and now she has the cutess bob and it's healthy and shiny.
I struggle on days when I flat iron my hair and the sweat it out in my sleep. Some days I miss my short ready to go hair. Reading your blog helps me when I just want to go back to texurizing.Keep up the good work.

Congrats on the big chop! I took a hiatus from hair-care blogging and am just now getting around to catching up with all my old fav bloggers hair status.
I'm transitioning too... but will not do a big chop. Instead, I'm shooting to install sisterlocks by January 2010.
August 17, 2009 at 11:56 AM
Good luck on your transition! Sisterlocks are awesome. I might do them one day.
