Hi, currently, I am transitioning my hair from relaxed to natural via wash & presses (pressing new growth only). Has anyone else tried this method? If so, what was your experience?

Hey Aquila,
I did this year before last to transition to natural. As a matter of fact, I NEVER wore my hair out natural I always had it pressed. I didn't experience any breakage or problems from doing this and I would get a small trim every couple of visits until there was no more relaxed hair left. I would say to be sure to keep your moisture up and to beware of how often you are getting your presses done. Too much high heat can cause damage so use a heat protectant. Make sure to nuture and baby your hair during this time because it's at its most fragile state going through transition.
*Note: I'm transitioning again but still on the fence about using heat. I don't have enough new growth for it to really be a problem (6 weeks post) and I just got my hair flat-ironed. I will say that since I haven't been using direct heat sparingly or not at all, I am seeing that my hair is growing.

Good morning Aquila,
I'm actually transitioning (once again), but have chosen to do curly styles instead of pressing. One thing you MUST remember is that the line of demarcation is soooo delicate, and your hair can and will break off if too much heat is applied on a regular basis. I know what I'm talking about!!
My advice to you is to keep the presses to 1-2 times and month, and perhaps alternate with a roller or rod set. Don't forget about the regular trims, too. This will help to disguise your relaxed ends and new growth, and it will keep your mind off of the transitioning (smile). It can get hard sometimes and you'll want to revert back to that relaxer!!
But here's wishing you a happy and healthy hair journey! Good luck and stay strong!!

@ Caligirl You can use rosewater mixed with aloe vera juice, Oyin Greg Juice, or any conditioner diluted with water. And of course, distilled water is great too.

Hello All,
I recently had a major set back and now have an extremely thin/mostly gone hairline. How can I style my hair and not stress/hide my hairline? If anyone has any pics, that would be great too! Also, would roller setting and then wrapping or cross wrapping my hair still stress my hairline?

Does anyone know of any good heat protectant (sp)? I used my flat iron maybe twice this year but I like to use it as an option to straighten my hair.TIA.

@ HauteHairGirl Have you considered a sew in with the front left out? I did a wet & wavy sew-in earlier this year with my hairline left out and there was no stress on it and the growth was great.

@ Loved_by_Him Have you tried Sabino Moisture Block? Redken Smooth Glide? or IC Fantasia Heat Protectant Serum? Those are really good serums!

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent my natural hair from getting puffy after working out? I use to wrap it and wear a scarf, but the front and back always puffed up. I don't want to use a flat-iron everyday, so any gym regimens you have, would be great.

@ eglass How do you wear your hair when you work-out? What do you do after working out?

How is everyone wearing their hair to work? Does anyone have any pics of their "corporate hair"?

Belle Cheveux says

@ HauteHairGurl I'm wearing twist extensions and for work, it's usually tied back into a bun.

@ Belle Cheveux

I either wrap it and put a scarf or brush it into a bun. Afterwards, I usually try to wear it down or sideswept. I try to limit putting ponytail holders in my hair as they tend to break my hair off in the back.

Thanks,

Ebony

@HauteHairGurl currently I have my hair braided (corn rows, no extensions)into a pony tail. I then have a bun that I put at the end of my hair. I don't know how to post pictures here.

I recently just BCed my hair. Now I'm really tender headed so the easiest way for me to maintain my hair is to wash and style it. Of course, washing hair everyday can dry it out. Are there any shampoo and conditioners that would allow me to wash my hair on a daily basis?

@ wun sexii kat Both Blended Beauty and CURLS have cleansers that can be used daily. I have the Blended Beauty Soy Cream Shampoo still left over and it's a great hair cleanser. So is the CURLS. As for conditioners, Aussie Moist Conditioner and Suave Tropical Coconut Conditioner are great for everyday use.
