With all the media attention focusing on Black women and their hair, we have to ask:

Is having natural hair the new "it" thing?
Feel free to discuss this further in the comments!

I am really surprised this was the outcome of the poll thus far. The questions posed here are different. Having natural hair might be the new "it" thing in certain circles--Brooklyn and natural hair blogs among them--but you certainly couldn't say the same thing in response to, "Is kinky/coily hair the new straight hair?" The second question is too sweeping. The new straight hair?! Among who? From my observation the majority of white women wear their hair straight and the majority of black women do the same.

@Anonymous Thank you for commenting :) I did ask two different questions. Right now, I feel that natural hair is becoming the "it" thing because people are realizing that the hair growing out of their scalps is beautiful.

I also believe that having natural hair now is equivalent to when straight/sleek hair became a trend. Many women down here (South Florida) now have TWA's :)

And of course, the question for the poll is geared towards Black women since the blog itself is geared towards Women of Color.

it's the new it thing because we're slowly realizing we don't need a perm

I definitely think natural hair is the new "it" thing. I believe it is a direct result of the increasing popularity of hair forums and blogs. More people are finding out about these things and catching on. It is only going to get stronger from here on out, slowly but surely. People are now realizing how beautiful our natural hair can be.

Yes, but people also need to do research on maintainence or one could quickly give up.
