Although silicone based products aren't too popular among the hair care circuit, some may actually help. Dimethicone (or Polydimethylsiloxane), an organic polymer made from silica, smoothes the hair cuticle and reduces its ability to be damaged. When the cuticle is smooth, the hair is easier to detangle.

Yes, I hear it's good to protect your hair before flat ironing. At times, my hair has loved silicone-based products, and other times hated it.

I had also heard silicone was bad for your hair. Imagine my surprise when I looked at the ingrediants on of NTM leave in and saw dimethicone. I love NTM leave in so I didn't stop using it. Good to know its not bad at all.
