What do YOU consider "Natural" hair?

Is it relaxer-free hair?
Is it hair free of all chemicals (i.e. permanent hair color)?

I woUld consider it hair that is relaxer free.... Beause I have perm color in my hair but it looks, feel and acts the same as my hair without it.... My protien bonds have not been broken down at all.. The cuticle has just been lifted..

To me, natural hair is hair that is relaxer-free. I don't consider hair color a major thing, but some natural hair forums might think differently. I guess the thing is that you're altering the hair that's growing out of your scalp or whatever, but it's still kinky. People use henna to color their hair and that stuff alters the hair texture also.

Hmm...I'm stumped!

I suppose its hair free of all chemicals, but after I did the BC, I dyed my hair. I did it with the thought that it wasn't really saturating my strands like a perm did, just giving it a coat.

I say hair free of all chemicals is "natural." I don't think you can be a "chemically-altered natural", just slap on a perm if you're going to put chemicals in your hair!

I think it's really cute when people put color in their after the BC, but technically I don't think your natural with it. However, when I see it, I don't think that person is not natural because of the color

I think that you are a natural only if you are not using chemicals to alter your texture or natural hair colour. I think that colouring our hair red or blonde is just as much a rejection of our heritage as straightening our hair.

I don't understand why so many women think that hair colour doesn't count. The argument is often that it looks good or matched their skin tone. But all the arguments against perming work against hair colouring too. I think its okay to colour your hair with dark colours if you have grey hairs, or if you want to go just a bit darker or lighter. But most people don't do colour that subtle.

I think women are having a double standard. I wonder if some of us are just afraid to let go of everything European when it comes to our hair. Its like its okay to give up the European texture, but not the colour, or its okay to have straight hair, but not straight blonde hair. Seriously, when anyone has decided to give themselves blond higlights were they inspired by someone biracial, someone with dyed hair, or someone White, or were they actually inspired by a Black person with naturally blonde hair? I think you will find that the first 3 are the reasons. If so, that really says something.

I would say the "natural hair" is hair that is NOT chemically altered. I am chemically relaxed but I only use organic/natural support/maintenace products. I am considering transitioning.

no relaxer or color. so, i'd say i'm natural...

although, i'm getting worried because i think i straightened my hair with a flat iron too much to the point where it won't curl up anymore.

now, my hair looks like im transitioning all over again.

natural to me.. means no dye, no perm, no flat iron, no hot comb.. nothing that will damage your hair!
